Abia NSE Certifies Aba Flood Mitigation Project, Warns Against Compromise


UMUAHIA – The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Umuahia branch has described the ongoing flood mitigation works in Aba as a laudable move in the right direction. 

Recall that the scope of the mitigation works with the contract sum of N27. 4billion fully funded by the Abia State Government and the World Bank is being handled by Hartland Nig Ltd, NBHH of UAE and Tunnell End Construction include: Construction of 2.65km of the underground tunnel from Uratta Pond (Uratta by Port Harcourt road) through Port-Harcourt road to Ngwa road by Obohia road. 

Also included as part of the Mitigation project is the construction of a 6.5km underground tunnel from Umuagbai Pond (borrow pit) at Owerri-Aba along Obohia road through Obohia road to Ngwa road. 

The chairman, NSE Umuahia branch, Engr. Ohia Uzoma, who led a team of engineers said this during an industrial visit to the sites. 

Speaking while being conducted round the sites Engr. Uzoma expressed surprise at the magnitude of the environmental hazards and hardship being faced by the residents of the area and other road users before the intervention of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration in collaboration with the WorldBank.
